Summer Reading Program
Summers are a difficult time for children in domestic violence shelters. Separation from familiar surroundings, friends, family and lack of structured activities creates potential for children to experience feelings of isolation and despair. Routines such as attending school and participating in recreational activities are vital for children’s well being and should be maintained.
We provide books for all ages and reading levels, healthy snacks, incentives to set reading goals and prizes for goals met. Studies have shown that when engaged in the right type of book, fiction or nonfiction reading can be therapeutic in challenging times.
